New Accreditation Scheme launches to set benchmark for independent marketing consultants

19.03.14, Bristol – A new accreditation scheme designed to help marketing consultants differentiate themselves and gain more work from small businesses has launched this month.

Speak to any group of small businesses and you are sure to find a large proportion that have been affected by poor marketing advice. With the ever increasing number of self-employed ‘specialists’ taking the place of larger, established businesses, being marketing qualified is no longer a guarantee of being a good consultant.

So how do small businesses with modest budgets available decide which consultant to use? That’s precisely the question marketing expert and author Bryony Thomas hopes to answer with her new Watertight Marketing Certified Practitioner network, which officially launched this week.

The Watertight Marketing Accreditation will provide small business owners with the reassurance that they are working with a genuine, high quality, fairly priced strategic consultant, who is also fully trained in Bryony’s proven Watertight Marketing methodology.

Accredited marketing consultants must pass strict criteria, with a CIM qualification as a baseline requirement. Accepted consultants will benefit from peer support, career development, ongoing training, and it is expected that all members will be chartered marketers within 2 years of joining, if they are not already.

Bryony first unveiled the Watertight Marketing concept through her best-selling book ‘Watertight Marketing’, published in early 2013. It has been the response to this book, which has over 40 five star reviews on Amazon.co.uk and the increasing demand from SMEs for products and services that follow its unique methodology, that has led Bryony to pioneer the Accreditation.

Commenting on the launch of the Watertight Marketing Certified Practitioner network, Bryony explains:

“Finding a marketing consultant they can trust, and who actually understands marketing through to sales results is difficult. Small businesses desperately need sound strategic marketing advice to thrive. Finding a marketing consultant they can trust, and who actually understands marketing through to sales results is difficult.”

“A Watertight Marketing Certified Practitioner will be a respected consultant in their own right with an excellent track record, they will also have been fully trained in the Watertight Marketing methodology and licensed to use the models and materials in their client engagements. These people will have been carefully selected to ensure that they can be trusted to support small businesses through the step change they’re looking for.”

Bryony has launched the Accreditation programme with two founding members Ben Wheeler, a Freelance Marketing Consultant and Rachael Wheatley, founder of Bluegreen Learning Ltd

Ben explains: “I am a big fan of the Watertight Marketing book and all the extra resources that come with it. There are ideas to benefit every client I work with – several of whom are small businesses who want a marketing strategy they can understand and be involved with. I’ve known Bryony for several years so when I heard she was launching a scheme for marketing consultants to be accredited with the Watertight Marketing process it was an easy decision to join. It’ll add new skills to what I offer and I’m really looking forward to working with her and being part of the Watertight Marketing network.”

Rachael Wheatley - Marketing ConsultantRachael explains: “Watertight Marketing is a great idea – the book, the workbooks, the e-learning and now the network of consultants. It is, will be, an invaluable resource for small and medium-sized businesses who need a marketing plan, both structure and practical support. Bryony’s approach has real synergy with mine and her methodology will dovetail with, and add value to, the services I already offer. I am very much looking forward to working with Bryony and other consultants and being a part of building something truly innovative.”
