Ben was one of the first marketing consultants to join the Watertight Marketing network, joining Bryony in 2014. He is based in Bristol and works with clients across the South West and further afield, via Skype.
With more than 25 years of marketing experience, he’s been a freelance marketing consultant since 2009 and specialises in helping clients achieve the two things that often cause the biggest headaches – deciding what marketing they actually need to do – and creating the content they need to raise their profile and attract the clients they want.
He’s largely worked within advertising agencies and other creative and consultancy businesses; spending time in business development, digital marketing and content writing. His love of writing has seen him publish well over 100 blog articles and he regularly writes on behalf of clients (including all the Watertight Marketing case studies).
His LinkedIn articles have helped his clients win inbound enquiries from major corporations and his blogging keeps one happy client on the front page of Google for many of their key search terms – and they don’t spend a penny on any paid advertising.
Ben typically works with clients between 1-4 days a month and many relationships are on-going where he feels like a part of your team. As one of his clients, Dave James, MD of cyber security consultancy Ascentor describes, “Ben has an input on strategy, helps with our website content, social media and brings fresh ideas to the table each month. Most important of all, he saves us a huge amount of time and makes sure that our marketing, messaging, and visibility remain on-track.”
As well as having the Chartered institute of Marketing Diploma, he’s also qualified in HR with the CIPD Diploma. This has helped him create marketing strategies for many different HR suppliers working in recruitment and resourcing, employer branding, HR consulting, career management and HR software.
In his spare time Ben is a keen guitarist, traveller and gardener.

“Ben is the quiet guy that shouldn’t be underestimated. Where some marketers are defined by their big personalities, Ben’s quiet and considered style can be a breath of fresh air. There’s never a doubt that he’s truly listening to what’s being said, and that his intelligent response will in turn be worth hearing. His conscientious approach means that you can be sure everything will get done. Where he also stands out from many marketers is in having experienced the selling coalface – he’s landed serious pan-European contracts, and also has hands-on business development experience (from hitting the phones to landing the deals). This means he fully understands how sales needs to be supported by effective marketing.” Bryony Thomas, Author & Founder of Watertight Marketing
